RECRUITERS HAVE A VAST NETWORK OF CONTACTS

Recruiters' contacts in the IT field are definitely not exclusive to hiring managers. When a recruiter successfully places a candidate in a position, that candidate becomes a vital source of information to the recruiter. Recruiters constantly update their records using the information that their contacts provide. For example, a recruiter might call a candidate they have previously placed and ask who their immediate supervisor is, how many programmers are in their department, or if they are expanding and are going to need more programmers in the near future. They use this information to keep tabs on who might be looking for a job change, or what companies are downsizing or expanding. They also keep track of what the employee thinks about the company, how pleased he working there and what he does and doesn't like about the company. This information is useful to recruiters in that it helps them match up candidate personalities with work environments. It enables recruiters to tell you if you would enjoy working for a certain company or not. Recruiters want their candidates to be happy in their new workplace, because it means that successful matches are being made.
